We say goodbye to the final last days of winter and prepare ourselves for warmer and longer days. Which means, more time for touring and exploring (yay)! Also, you will start to see some local events popping up over the country, if you have free leisure time, maybe go and check out a couple in the city you’re travelling to.
Here is a couple of favourite events to look out for in our city pick for this blog, Melbourne:
AFL Grand Final and the Parade (September)
Something you need to experience even if you don’t know the sport or support the team in the Grand Final. The parade has been part of the build up of the final since 1977. The parade draws tens of thousands of visitors each year. After the parade, fans can enjoy entertainment at the AFL’s annual Footy Festival. You can also watch the final in nearly every pub (expect it to be busy and lively!) or maybe you were lucky enough to score some game tickets, enjoy it!
Head to the AFL website for more information about the event closer to the date: www.afl.com.au/tickets/grandfinal
Melbourne Marathon (October)
Feeling fit as? Why not go for a run, heck why not join the Melbourne Marathon! Hosted in October, runners travel interstate to compete in the city’s marathon. The marathon is designed for all fitness levels ranging from the 3km walk to the massive 42km run. For more information head to their website – www.melbournemarathon.com.au
Melbourne Cup Carnival (November)
Another public holiday for Melbourne! (spoilt in spring this city) The national wide known Melbourne Cup Carnival where one race stops the nation. Heading to the race? Women dress to impress and gentlemen ready to punt. If you’re not able to make it to the racecourse there is plenty of events around the CBD and the rest of Australia where you can catch all the action and festivities.
